#YouthTechOAK: Connecting youth of color with tech skills in Oakland

October 22, 2013 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

#YouthTechOakland: There are several groups working in Oakland (and around the Bay) to help our Oakland youth of color learn tech and business skills that will help them get good jobs in the future. Black Girls CODE, Hack the Hood, and The Hidden Genius Project are three new non-profit programs that work with local youth of color to teach them tech and workplace skills that can leap to college enrollment, internships, and good jobs.

Whether you’re a tech interested in helping to create a more inclusive workforce in the Bay, a veteran coder or entrepreneur with wisdom and ideas to share, an educator working to help your youth get the skills the need, or an engaged parent or family member wanting to help your kids succeed, come join Oakland Local, Impact HUB Oakland, Black Girls CODE, Hack the Hood, and The Hidden Genius Project for a discussion about how we can change Oakland youth of color’s access to tech jobs and tech entrepreneurship.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Idalin “Abby” Bobe,
Marketing Associate, BlackGirls CODE, Zakiya Harris, Hack the Hood program manager, The Hidden Genius’ Project’s Kurt Collins and others will discuss tactics and best practices their program as using to engage youth in tech and create successful, accessible programs, outreach and support networks.

COME OUT FOR THIS DISCUSSION AND NETWORKING EVENT: Help us make inclusive tech education accessible to many more Oakland youth—- who deserve access to good jobs, interesting work, and support to master the skills it takes to get there–and find out about best practices from non-profit educators and techies working in the field.
