SUMMARY:AfroComicCon 2019
DESCRIPTION:Our three-day event is an innovative\, exciting\, new interactive comic convention that combines\, art\, tech\, workshops\, gaming\, cosplay\, fashion\, writing\, creativity\, FLASH (Fit Like A Super Hero)\, webtv\, film\, VR\, and more. \nA panel of professionals/filmmakers/actors/movie producers/artists\, as well as other game changers\, will give insights into their work to inspire the participants\, answer questions and provide tips on how to make it in the industry. Industry professionals and aspiring new artists are an integral part of this event. Participants have the chance to explore the possibilities of entrepreneurial creativity and production. \nThe reward for attendees comes through experiencing the images and stories featuring characters that they can identify with\, as well as seeing professionals already masterful in their fields\, who look like them.  These experiences can have a positive effect on their success in school and on career paths. \nOur event provides a supportive climate for our multifaceted\, art\, tech-media\, learning\, and networking experience that showcases the talents of underrepresented groups such as professionals of color\, and women. We provide a positive atmosphere which fosters creativity and innovation\, encouraging the free flow of ideas and exchanges through respectful\, trusting\, and caring communication during the three-day conference. \nAfroComicCon is positive and inclusive\, unlike the mainstream con’s which have been known to be places of exclusion for certain groups. The reward for attendees\, especially for children\, comes through experiencing images\, and stories featuring characters that they can identify with. This can have a positive effect on their success in school and careers. \nAfroComicCon is a program of Oakland Technology & Education Center\, a 501c3 non-profit organization.

SUMMARY:Richmond Community Foundation 6th Annual Northern California Summit on Children and Youth
DESCRIPTION:The Richmond Community Foundation and the members of the 2015 Summit Steering Committee are pleased to bring the 6th Annual Northern California Summit on Children and Youth to the Richmond Civic Center again this year. The summit is scheduled for April 30\, 2015 and the theme for this year’s event is Bridging the STEM Diversity Gap – Building the Next Generation Workforce. \nLack of diversity in the Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, and Math (STEM) fields received national attention when the largest technology companies in the country released their diversity numbers.  Across the board\, African Americans and Latinos made up barely 2% of the workforce.  And although women make up more than 50% of college graduates\, they represent less than 30% of those working in STEM fields.  We need to ensure that careers in STEM fields are available to all Californians and build pathways that provide opportunities for young women and young men of color. \nThe day will be comprised of dynamic speakers and presentations that explore academic\, vocational\, training\, mentoring and employment programs targeting underserved youth and focusing on STEM\, and also evaluate career opportunities for women as well as boys and men of color.  The goal is to demonstrate successful STEM pathways and encourage more organizations to replicate or scale them up for West Contra County stakeholders. \nThis convening will attract educators\, community organizations\, community leaders\, local government and elected officials\, businesses\, and area foundations from throughout Northern California to share innovative approaches\, research-driven models\, and best practices for supporting children and youth.
